Job Title:  Assistant Supervisor/Assistant Director

Accountable To:  Executive Director or Project Coordinator
FLSA Status:  Exempt/Non-Union
Position Status:  Regular/Full-Time


Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the project supervisor is responsible for program management of the diverse projects of the agency.  Some supervision of in home support workers required.  Public relations and community involvement with committees related to mission of the agency.

Scope of Responsibility:

This position reports directly to Managing Director.  This position will supervise some employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises employees within assigned area
  • Schedules and directs work
  • Performs orientation and training
  • Recommends personnel actions such as selection, evaluation, promotion, staffing and discipline up to and including discharge with the guidelines of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action programs and in accordance with project policies and procedures
  • Assists in interviewing, hiring, firing, and evaluating in home workers and administrative assistance staff
  • Coordinates and assists in providing the initial training of FSN workers regarding dynamics of child abuse and neglect, and parent-child interaction techniques
  • Provides supervision, case management and monitoring of performance for the in-home workers
  • Coordinates in-service training for in-home workers on a weekly basis
  • Assuring that staff has materials and training needed to perform all aspects of their work, particularly parent-child interaction
  • Conduct or arrange for assessments on each project family at intake and after 4-6 months.  Provides feedback to in-home workers to improve parent/child interactions
  • Conduct quarterly client record reviews
  • Thoroughly familiar with established affirmative action plan
  • Ensure all contract requirements are met
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Serve as chief liaison with local agencies, community organizations and key constituent groups
  • Advocate at the national, regional and local levels for improved services for children
  • Represent the Family Support Network at conferences, meetings, etc. to promote the mission and values of FSN

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in related health or human service field preferred.  Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional certification plus five (5) years of relevant experience may be substituted for the educational requirements.  Three (3) years of client service and administrative experience in human service program; experience in maternal/infant health and child abuse and neglect preferred.  Valid Montana driver’s license and access to vehicle insured for business use.


Job Title:  Home Visitor

Job Summary:

 Under the direction of the Project Supervisor, the Home Visitor is responsible for optimizing the home environment for the physical and mental well-being of children and their families who are at risk of abuse and/or neglect.  The Home Visitor will provide support to both the biological and foster parents, as well as supervise visitations for families whose children are in state care.  The Home Visitor will work with parents to provide emotional and physical support to their children; will provide assistance in strengthening the parent-child relationship through improving parenting skills and will meet support needs of parents.

 Scope of Responsibility:

 This position reports directly to Managing Director.  This position does not supervise any employees.

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Establish a trusting relationship with at-risk families, by initiating and maintaining regular client contact.
  • Establish a case plan with goals, objectives and activities for each family.  Under the direction of the Project Supervisor, satisfactorily implement case plans.
  • Possess working knowledge of parent-child interaction and child development materials and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect.  Demonstrates beginning level skills in utilizing these materials.
  • Demonstrate beginning ability to apply basic counseling skills.  Shows continuing motivation to learn new skills.
  • Assist parents in making and attending appointments for doctors, social service agencies, etc.
  • Act as a liaison between families and other community agencies.
  • Act as an advocate for families, when necessary.
  • Encourage families to take advantage of existing positive family or community support network.
  • Has familiarity with community resources and uses these appropriately to meet needs of clients.
  • Provide on-call services, as required.  Is able to differentiate between those situations requiring immediate attention and those that can be scheduled during regular working hours.
  • Meet with Project Supervisor on a regular basis to evaluate client status.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, case conferences, in-service training and other staff meetings, as required.
  • Demonstrate competence with written English.  Able to accurately record pertinent information related to client observations and actions, and worker interventions in a complete and concise manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team.
  • Manage assigned caseload and related work responsibilities.
  • Consistently follow project policies and procedures.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new Family Support Network Home Visitors.
  • Recognize need for professional intervention and make appropriate and effective referrals.

Education and/or Experience:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

 Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Possess a two year degree in Human Services, or related field, from an accredited institution or two to three years experience providing direct services to families.
  • Demonstrate maturity and experience in successfully working with infants and young children (able to serve as a positive role model).
  • Demonstrate qualities of empathy and good communication in order to establish trusting relationships with clients quickly.
  • Available to respond to clients in a crisis, on a 24 hour basis.
  • Able to identify a crisis situation and respond accordingly.
  • Must be able to provide transportation for clients, as required by the job.  Must provide own transportation to job sites.
  • Must be able to check in with voice mail or answering service twice a day, at times designated by the supervisor.
  • Knowledge of cultural differences and knowledge regarding issues impacting low-income families.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of community services.
  • Demonstrate abilities to work as part of a team.
  • Must possess a basic knowledge of nurturing parenting techniques and child development and stress management skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must demonstrate and be able to model a healthy self concept.
  • Must be able to demonstrate computer skills sufficient to enter required information concerning clients and statistical data on data base, etc.
  • Have reliable transportation and a valid Montana drivers license.
